Elder Henry L. Nicholes Jr. Legacy Scholarship Award

In honor of the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Elder Henry L. Nicholes Jr., Calvert County Baptist Church is proud to present the Elder Henry L. Nicholes Jr. Scholarship Award. This scholarship recognizes students who embody Elder Nicholes’ commitment to service education, faith, leadership, and community advancement. Elder Henry lived a life devoted to uplifting others, encouraging youth, pursuing excellence, and serving faithfully. He demonstrated unwavering dedication, strong character, integrity, and a deep belief that education and faith are powerful tools for creating meaningful change. This scholarship seeks to honor students who reflect Elder Nicholes’ values—individuals who are committed not only to advancing their own educational goals but also to making a positive impact within their communities through service, leadership, and faith. We are excited to open the application process and invite eligible students to apply for this meaningful opportunity to invest in their future while carrying forward Elder Nicholes’ remarkable legacy.


Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this award, applicants must:


Be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning (graduating seniors must provide proof of acceptance).


Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Demonstrate a minimum of 24 hours of community engagement/service

within the last 12 months.


Pursue studies in one of the following areas:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Arts
  • Mathematics (STEAM)
  • Theology

Provide a letter of recommendation from a Calvert County Baptist Church

ministry leader.


Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or senior

administrative professional at their high school.


Complete the scholarship application.


Submit a 300-word essay responding to one (1) of the following prompts:

  • How is your faith reflected in your life?
  • What is your favorite scripture and why?

Participate in a scholarship interview with the selection committee, 

if required.


Award Distribution

All awarded funds will be sent directly to the institution the selected recipient will attend. We look forward to supporting students who demonstrate academic achievement, meaningful service, and a strong foundation of faith as they pursue their educational journey and continue strengthening the communities around them. We strongly encourage all eligible students to apply and become part of carrying forward Elder Henry L. Lt. Richard Collin III Academic Scholarship Award

In honor of the life, legacy, and courageous spirit of Lt.Richard Collins III, Calvert County Baptist Church is honored to present a prestigious academic award in his name. This award celebrates excellence, faith, leadership, and the bright future of our young people! 

 

We are thrilled to open the application process and invite eligible students to apply. This is an exciting opportunity to receive financial support as you pursue your educational journey—whether at a 4-year college/university, an accredited trade school, or a 2-year post-secondary program.


Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this award, applicants must:


Be a member of Calvert County Baptist Church in good standing—with both regular attendance and active participation.


Complete the scholarship application.


Submit a 300-word essay including: 

  • Personal statement of faith
  • Future goals and aspirations
  • Community engagement or service (if applicable)

Matriculate to a 4-year institution, an accredited trade school, or a 2-year post-graduate school.


Hold a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.


Provide a letter of recommendation from a Calvert County Baptist Church ministry leader.


Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or senior administrative professional at their high school.


Participate in a scholarship interview with the selection committee, if required.
